Hypothermia

Hypothermia is as acute as heat stroke, only in the opposite direction. Hypothermia means basically that a person is cold clear to the bone, and that all of his body’s defensive resources are nearly exhausted. If he gets any colder, he will die. When in this state, he no longer has the ability to realize that he is cold. It could happen under any particular set of circumstances – after a rainstorm or a fall in a lake, or whatever, and is a critical condition that should be treated on the trail, if necessary. The individual should be warmed up and fed immediately, wrapped in a bedroll, put by a warm fire, and given warm, nutritional teas with honey.
