Serves two
A thick, creamy chowder, high in protein and a special treat with added crab.
• 1/2 cup dehydrated corn
• 1/2 cup freeze-dried potatoes or 1 raw unpeeled potato, cut in small pieces
• 2 tablespoons corn meal
• 2 tablespoons whole wheat flour
• 2 tablespoons soy milk powder
• 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
• 1 teaspoon onion flakes
• 1 teaspoon celery flakes
• 1/2 teaspoon salt
• 1/8 teaspoon paprika
• dash pepper
• 1 tablespoon butter
• 1 6 1/2-ounce can cracked crab and juice (optional)
• 4 1/4 cups water
Combine all dry ingredients in one bag before you go. In camp combine all ingredients, except crab, in cold water and stir well. Bring to boil, stirring occasionally. Simmer for 10 to 15 minutes. Add can of crab and its juice, if desired, and heat through. Serve hot.
