Miso Spread

Serves two

Use on breads as a thin spread with or without sliced cheese. This spread is easy to make in camp, too.

• 3 to 4 cloves garlic, chopped very fine, OR 5 to 6 wild onions with greens, sliced
• 2 tablespoons water
• 1 tablespoon sesame or peanut butter
• 1 teaspoon miso
• 1/4 teaspoon olive oil (enough to just cover bottom of pan)

Put oil in fry pan, add garlic or onions. Stir lightly until it turns somewhat translucent. Add mixed miso, peanut or sesame butter, and water and stir for a couple of minutes until it thickens.

Variation: for condiment, serve a small amount of spread beside rice or other grain for extra flavor and nourishment.
